The word camping is a rather generic word and may bring to mind many different images for each individual. What does it make you think of? Hiking through the woods or backpacking through the desert? Or does it make you remember when you were a kid and you got to invite a bunch of friends over and set up a tent in your backyard? Of course you had to have that prerequisite sign “boys only” since no girls were allowed. It didn’t get any better than that.

Many kids enjoy going to summer camp so they can hang out with a bunch of other kids and tell ghost stories around the campfire while everyone pretends they are not really scared. You can’t admit you are actually afraid because that’s not cool and they may make fun of you. Yet you are already thinking about the camping equipment you may need for next summer and starting your camping checklist, as well as planning your revenge for the year before.

Maybe your family has been thinking about renting an RV Camper, or something similar, and taking off for a camping vacation. If you are planning something like that, be sure to check ahead for some RV campgrounds or something comparable along your route. You may also want to call to find out if you will need campground reservations before you head out, so that you will know you definitely have a space.

If you are planning to travel to the great outdoors in an RV camper, then plan ahead and find out if any of the locations you plan to camp in have restrictions in place. They may not allow motorized vehicles of any kind, or maybe there is day use only and they have no overnight accommodations available. This type of planning helps to avoid what could be a huge problem for you, not to mention having to deal with “are we there yet?” from the kids. If you have not already decided where you plan to go, then consider a lake campground where there will be swimming, fishing or just relaxing options for everyone. Remember to call and double check on what, if any, restrictions are applicable for the locations you plan on visiting.

If it is getting late and you have not been able to locate a family campground or anything else suitable, then you do have other choices. Since you more than likely have all the equipment that you need in the RV, you can either keep going or stop somewhere for the night and then head out again in the morning. The kids will have a great time even if they complained initially that they didn’t want to go camping. If you look closely, you may even see some smiles on their faces.
