The Wonderful Artistic Art of Fly Fishing
There is nothing as beautiful to watch as the fly fisherman, that\’s busy casting he\’s line out. The swoosh of the line as the fly sails through the air, to land on the water. The fisherman then proceeds to coax the fish into biting - and once that fish has bitten.
Fly Fishing is an ancient technique that was initially developed to catch salmon and trout - but these days it\’s also used to catch fish like carp and bass as well as pike.
The whole idea behind fly fishing is to create the illusion that your artificial bait (fly) is in actual fact a real live insect. The better you get at this technique, the easier it becomes.
The challenge to fly fishing is to cast the fly line as quietly and as far as possible. Once you\’ve got the distance, you need to get the fly to land softley as well. In the begining this can be pretty frustrating. But, it actually takes you less time than you would think to become accomplished at this graceful way of casting. The big difference between normal fishing and fly fishing is that with normal fishing, you have the weight of the bait that helps you achieve great distance in casting. With fly fishing there is no such luxury - the bait (or the fly as it\’s known) weighs almost nothing and you need to use the weight of the line, plus a special casting technique to cast the fly into the water.
Basically, what you\’ll need to go onto a fly fishing expedition is:
* Fly Rod\’s differ from your standard fishing pole, in that they are long, thing and light in weight. This is important, as it helps you to get that line out as far as possible.
* The Line is also a special line, which is usually heavier than most fishing lines out these. The reason why you need the line to be heavier, is because you use the line weight to cast with.
* The fly itself acts as your bait. You can purchase flies at any bait shop, or you can make them yourself - if you have the patience. The fly is made from animal furs and feathers and usually is quite colorful.
* And then of course you\’ve got to find the spot. Most fly fisherman are very secretive about their spots - seeing that the moment it leaks out, the spot becomes overfilled. So this often is the most difficult part of any fly fishing expedition.
To the uninitiated - fly fishing is just fishing. But to those that love this sport, it\’s the only way to fish. Enjoyment and relaxation the way it\’s supposed to be - just you, your thoughts, and the beauty of nature. Enjoy it.
